The Pomodoro technique for students: a simple guide

By the SANPU team ·

The Pomodoro technique splits study time into focused blocks with short breaks in between. The classic version is 25 minutes of work, then a 5 minute break, and a longer break after four rounds.

Why it works

A fixed block feels small enough to start, which beats procrastination. The timer protects your focus, and regular breaks keep your brain fresh so the last session of the day is still useful.

How to start

  • Pick one task from today’s list.
  • Start a 25 minute focus session and put your phone away.
  • When the timer rings, stand up, drink water and rest for 5 minutes.
  • After four sessions, take a 15 to 30 minute break.

Adjust it to you

Some people focus better for 45 or 60 minutes. SANPU’s timer lets you choose the length, tag each session with a subject and see your weekly focus history, so you learn what works for you.
